MHT02 – Personality Disorder – making sense of maladaptive behaviours:

Working with individuals with symptoms of personality disorder can be challenging. The often self-destructive behaviours of individuals with the potential diagnosis can be difficult to manage and put into a context. This workshop helps staff to make sense of maladaptive behaviours and to manage any potential crisis or challenging behaviours with greater clarity and resilience.

This event looks at Antisocial, Borderline and Paranoid personality disorder in greater detail. It helps staff to develop support plans, improve team cohesion, improve conflict management and increase the safety and support of both service user and support staff alike.

Key features of the workshop

  • A clear focus on the diagnostic criteria for personality disorder;
  • A detailed focus on the psychopathology of Borderline, Antisocial and Paranoid personality disorder;
  • A clear understanding of attachment disorders, childhood neglect and abuse pathology and its relationship with externalising emotion-disorders;
  • A clearer understanding of the pathology of self-harming behaviour and psychological drives that lead to this abuse;
  • Managing emotional conflict to improve safer outcomes for all;
  • A focus on the risk-factors that load the risk to service user and support staff;
  • A focus on substance misuse in relation to self-medication rather than recreation;
  • A focus on raising the issues of intimate Partner Violence in relation to externalising personality disorder;
  • Improving interaction skills and putting behaviours into a clear context
