
MHT12 – Suicide Awareness:
This full-day training course that provides a key focus on the complicated issues that surround suicidal behaviours.
Delegates will learn about the psychiatric disorders and cognitive disturbances that are associated with suicidal ideation and suicidal risks and learn to recognise, support, intervene or signpost clients to safety.
The following key issues will be discussed throughout the day.
- A key focus on major depression and its relationship with suicidal ideation;
- The relationship with other psychiatric disorders and suicidal ideation;
- The risk assessment process – recognising key factors associated with suicidal ideation;
- Understand common terms and communicate effectively about suicide risk with other professionals;
- Recognising the typical ‘activating events’ and cognitive disturbances that are involved in suicidal ideation – recognising when suicidal ideations are present;
- Immediately reduce the acute distress, despair, and hopelessness of suicidal persons through an empathic, understanding interview in which protective factors can be brought into play to create a safety and survival plan and reduce the risk of a suicide attempts
- This course is delivered in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
There is no role-play required and an emphasis is based on delegate dignity at all times.
